Dead Isl& 2 Has Been Delayed
Dead Isl& 2 gets its release date pushed back a bit further, which is a little unfortunate given how long it’s been in development.
Dead Isl& 2 has been delayed, with the studio having to push the launch date back just a little bit while the team works on putting the finishing touches to it. Many fans have been waiting literal years for the follow-up to Techl&’s predecessor, & when the trailer for the sequel was shown off, it became one of the most anticipated zombie games of this generation. A lot of gamers have been looking forward to the new game dropping, but now they’ll have to wait a bit longer.
It’s no secret that Dead Isl& 2 was stuck in development hell. It’s been in the works for about a decade now, with the project going from studio to studio. Techl& were unable to take the reins for the sequel due to focusing on Dying Light, so it was passed on to Yager Development, which was responsible for Spec Ops: The Line. However, Dead Isl& 2 was then h&ed over to Sumo Digital, which co-developed the Hitman reboot, as well as Hitman 2, before the game was finally passed over to Dambuster Studios, an internal development team set up by publishers Deep Silver.
Given all that, it’s not surprising the sequel has taken so long to Approach out. While it was originally scheduled for release on February 3, 2023, an announcement on the official Dead Isl& 2 Twitter page says the game has now been delayed until April 28, 2023. In an image uploaded along with the tweet, the studio says it’s disappointed over having to push the launch date back, though the message reassures fans that the team are “on the final straight now.” The text in the image goes on to say the developer will be spending time to make sure it releases a game everyone involved can be “proud to launch.”
After the hilarious Dead Isl& 2 trailer, which was a stark contrast to the emotionally devastating trailer from the first game, many have been looking forward to the sequel finally dropping. As such, the delay may feel like a let-down, but it is only 12 extra weeks, which is nothing when compared to the decade that’s elapsed since the game was announced.
It’s quite surprising that so many are eager for the sequel, especially as Dead Isl& was hardly one of the best zombie games out there. While its emotional teaser did whet the appetites of fans, not to mention it came out at a time when zombie shooters were still in vogue, the final result was one that was met with lukewarm praise. Still, the opportunity for a follow-up has evidently got many people excited.
Dead Isl& 2 launches on April 28, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, & Xbox Series X/S.
