Freeing the beast Gram has heavy consequences in God of War Ragnarok, leaving Kratos to clean up the mess. As the mystical beast can leap through the Realms with a tear caused by his claws, many tears appear all over the Realms before capturing him.
Hel to Pay is a side quest similar to Born from Fire Favor in God of War Ragnarok, as players must close all Hel-Tears to complete it. Luckily, the rewards are worth it since closing all six tears rewards six Frozen Sparks, 4500 Kratos XP, 1125 Companion XP, Essence of Hel, & Dust of Realms. It’s possible to complete the Favor as soon as it is triggered upon finishing the Reunion chapter.
Where To Find All Hel-Tears In God Of War Ragnarok
Six Hel-Tears can be found while exploring the Realms:
- Sindri’s House
- Helheim
- Midgard
- Svartalfheim
- Alfheim
- Vanaheim
The first two are closed automatically during the main quests in God of War Ragnarok. Technically, this leaves Kratos with four Hel-Tears, making the side quest much more manageable. If by any chance players can’t find any Hel-Tear, they are usually marked as Undiscovered on the map & most of the time are located near Mystic Gateways.
Midgard Hel-Tear
From the Lake of Nine Mystic Gateway, head northwest up the slope & approach the Well of Urd, where the Midgard Hel-Tear is. Climb up the cliffs & squeeze through the rocks until the Hel-Tear appears. Kratos will have a limited time to defeat two Hel-Raider Chiefs Level 5 & two Hel-Shadow Archers level 5.
Svartalfheim Hel-Tear
Travel to the Aurvangar Wetl&s Mystic Gateway & sail the boat north. Upon arriving at the wooden water gate in God of War Ragnarok, row the boat to the dock on the right & jump out. Proceed east & freeze the water to cross to the other side. Climb the wooden beams to the top & jump down to find the Hel-Tear. Kratos & his companion will have a limited time to defeat a Hel-Viken level 6 & eight Hel-Shadow Archers level 6 while closing the tear.
Vanaheim Hel-Tear
The final Hel-Tear is found in Vanaheim, once Freya’s home in God of War Ragnarok. Go to The Southern Wilds Mystic Gateway & walk north, the Hel-Tear will appear along the way. Be ready for this one since Kratos must defeat a Hel-Traveler level 6 & five Hel-Brood level 5.
Alfheim Hel-Tear
The Alfheim tear is luckily very close to the gateway, so reaching it shouldn’t cause a problem. Fast Travel to The Strond Mystic Gateway & go through the southern gate near the gigantic statue. Leap down to find the Hel-Tear. Within a specified period of time, players must defeat:
- One Hel-Viken level 7
- One Hel-Reaver level 7
- Six Hel-Reaver level 6
It’s highly recommended that players fight using the Blades of Chaos in God of War Ragnarok, as enemies from the Hel-Tear don’t take heavy damage from the Leviathan Axe. Upon collecting the sixth Frozen Spark, a Frozen Flame will be rewarded. Use it to upgrade the Leviathan Axe.
