God of War Ragnarok Best Companions

[ad_1]
God of War Ragnarok gives players eight companions to work with in the game. That is seven more than the last game & it does include Atreus, but not Mimir. He’s a companion as well but not a combat companion. Atreus was playable briefly in the last game but his access has been increased in the sequel.
The companion list is split in God of War Ragnarok between Kratos & Atreus, but saying anything more may spoil things. The variety in these characters is great from combat prowess to charm. If players don’t wish to know who will get unlocked, there will be spoilers ahead on that front.
Gameplay spoilers ahead!
8/8 Ingrid

Ingrid is a magical sword but she is not a piece of equipment. It is unanswered in the game if it is imbued with a spirit to give it sentience or if it is just magical. What is answered is who Ingrid belonged to before Odin snatched her away.
Freyr calls her back in the final battle that attempts to overthrow Odin & Asgard. She’s a companion to Atreus for a couple of missions after he gets into Asgard & is quite capable of fighting on her own.
7/8 Atreus

Atreus is both a playable character & a companion to Kratos. This was true in the 2018 reboot as well, serving as the game’s only companion. Atreus has grown over these two games but he still makes mistakes.
As a playable character, he isn’t Depraved thanks to his agility. He’s nowhere near as tough as his father though. Also, as an AI-controlled companion, Atreus is relatively weak or at least his AI is in God of War Ragnarok.
6/8 Thor

Thor begins God of War Ragnarok as an antagonist, appearing with Odin to intimidate Kratos into obedience. After a quick boss fight, he disappears before popping up again once Atreus reaches Asgard. It’s Unbelievable that he doesn’t kill Atreus on the spot.
Moreover, he has to accompany Atreus on two missions for Odin much to his displeasure. This God of Thunder is probably the strongest companion in the game in terms of raw power, but he doesn’t help much due to Depraved blood.
5/8 Sindri

Sindri is one of the best-written characters in the game. His cleanliness makes him a riot from stressing out over muddy footprints to getting nervous about Tyr staying in his broom closet. He also has a lot of heart, accompanying Atreus for a couple of missions.
He’s not very strong as he has a kitchen sink approach to combat. He pulls objects out of thin air & tosses them at enemies. Again, he’s funnier than he is powerful but his charm more than makes up for that.
4/8 Brok

Brok may lack the heart of Sindri but he has a fiery spirit for battle. He will fly into combat against any enemy, no matter the size. He’s a companion for Kratos once he, Kratos, & Freya leave for her homel&.
Brok doesn’t get much time in the spotlight in that realm, but his second quest involving getting the Draupnir Spear is great. That section of the game reveals a lot about his backstory with Sindri along with his dwarven society.
3/8 Angrboda

Angrboda is Atreus’ second companion in God of War Ragnarok. He wakes up in the l& of his people via a dream. Angrboda is there to greet him, explaining that it has been the destiny of Atreus/Loki for ages. She’s another character whose strength isn’t outst&ing but she has a lot of tenacity.
She’ll try to get as many enemies as possible, which is good for an AI. The best part about using Angrboda in combat is her colored dust which brightens up an already pretty game.
2/8 Thrud

Thrud is the daughter of Thor & unlike her father, she will help Atreus guilt-free. She is by far his strongest ally in the game & she brings the charm as well. It’s great that Atreus gets more companions his age to help himself grow.
Being around Kratos, a brooding hundred-plus-year-old man, couldn’t have helped with Atreus’ aging from the start of the 2018 reboot. Thrud has multiple weapons, packs a punch, & also has her family’s signature lightning effects.
1/8 Freya

Freya was an ally in the first game as a witch of the woods. Eventually, her godhood is revealed & by the end, she sadly turns on Kratos & Atreus after Balder dies. It’s wild then that God of War Ragnarok opens with her hunting them before eventually seeing that Kratos is stronger alive as an ally than dead.
Odin clouds all judgment but thankfully she gets the revenge on him that she deserves. She’s a tough cookie in battle & challenges Kratos’ views like no other companion on their travels. Perhaps in the next game, Freya could become playable too.
God of War Ragnarok was released on November 9, 2022, & is available on PS4 & PS5.
