Google Pixel 7 Pro vs Pixel 6 Pro: The Google Pixel 7 Pro is the upgrade to the Google Pixel 6 Pro. And although both smartphones look similar in design, Google introduced some important upgrades to the Pixel 7 Pro. The more interesting aspect of this upgrade is that the new Pixel 7 Pro has the same price tag as the Pixel 6 Pro.

Google did some refinement when it comes to the display and designs of the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro. Both smartphones still have a 6.7-inches LTPO AMOLED display that supports 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. But, the front screen of the Pixel 7 Pro is now less curved when compared to that of the Pixel 6 Pro.

Although both smartphones still have a centered punch hoe on the screen, there is a slight difference in the overall designs of both phones. The horizontal rear camera module on the Pixel 7 Pro is now continuous and completely blends with the frame of the phone and this is different from the way the camera module was built in the Pixel 6 Pro. The rear camera module looks better in the Pixel 7 Pro (see photos below).

The Google Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro are made of a Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus), and aluminum frame. Both also have IP68 dust/water resistance (up to 1.5m for 30 mins), their display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, and both have the Always-on display feature.

The display features on both smartphones are very similar, the durability features are the same, and the design also looks similar. But, the design of the Pixel 7 Pro has been refined by Google and this makes it looks more attractive than the Pixel 6 Pro.

Google makes some of the best camera smartphones in the industry. This is is because the Google Pixel phones are equipped with Google’s own ISP that processes images and this improves the photo and video quality of Pixel phones.

The rear camera setup of the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro is 50MP + 48MP + 12MP but the Pixel 7 Pro features a 10.8MP front camera while the Pixel 6 Pro features an 11.1MP front camera. The front camera sensor is just about the only major difference in the camera setup of both phones (even though both might be the same sensor).

The 50MP primary camera of the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro has an f/1.9 aperture, 1.2µm multi-directional PDAF, 25mm focal length, Laser AF, and OIS. There is really not much difference in the primary cameras of both phones. However, the 48MP telephoto lens of the Pixel 7 Pro can now do 5x optical zoom and 30x Super Res Zoom while that of the Pixel 6 pro can only do 4x optical zoom. The 12MP ultra-wide lens of the Pixel 7 Pro now has Auto Focus while that of the Pixel 6 Pro does not.

The telephoto lens of the Pixel 7 Pro has a focal length of 120mm and this offer a longer shooting range compared to the telephoto lens of the Pixel 6 Pro which is 104mm. The 10.8MP front camera of the Pixel 7 Pro is slightly better than the 11.1MP front camera of the Pixel 6 Pro.

The camera sensors of the Pixel 7 Pro are the same as those of the Pixel 6 Pro but the Pixel 7 Pro has more camera features and this makes it a better camera phone. Google also used a new ISP to process the images of the Pixel 7 Pro and this also helps in improving the overall photo and video quality from the cameras of the Pixel 7 Pro.

The camera features available in the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro are Laser AF, OIS, Dual-LED flash, Pixel Shift, Auto-HDR, panorama, gyro-EIS, 10-bit HDR, multi-directional PDAF, 4K recordings @30/60fps, guided frame (9only Pixel 7 Pro), photo unblur (only Pixel 7 Pro), magic eraser, cinematic blur (only Pixel 7 Pro), and Pro Level Zoom (only Pixel 7 Pro).

The Pixel 7 Pro has all the camera features of the Pixel 6 Pro but Google introduced some new camera features in the Pixel 7 Pro that are not available in the Pixel 6 Pro. Features like the Guided Frame feature which allow blind people to easily take good-quality photos with the aid of a voice command directing them on how to position the phone and the Photo Unblur features which clears any blurry parts of photos, Cinematic Blur, and Pro Level Zoom, are only available in the Pixel 7 Pro.

The chipset in the Google Pixel 7 Pro is the Google Tensor G2 5G chipset while that of the Google Pixel 6 Pro is the Google Tensor chip. Both chipsets are 5G capable but the Tensor G2 chip is built on a 4nm process while the Tensor chip is built on a 5nm process. These chipsets have an Octa-core CPU (8-core processor) but the Tensor G2 has upgraded CPU cores and a more powerful GPU.

The CPU cores of the Google Tensor chipset are two Cortex-X1 high-performance cores (speed 2.80GHz), two Cortex-A76 performance and efficiency cores (speed 2.25GHz), and four Cortex-A55 small-efficiency cores (speed 1.80GHz). In comparison, the Google Tensor G2 chipset has two Cortex-X1 high-performance cores (speed 2.85GHz), two Cortex-A710 performance and efficiency cores (speed 2.35GHz), and four Cortex-A55 small-efficiency cores (speed 1.80GHz).

The Pixel 6 Pro features the Mali-G78 MP20 GPU while the Pixel 7 Pro features the Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. From this comparison, you can see that the chipset of the Pixel 7 Pro has newer ad faster CPU cores and a more powerful GPU. This means the performance of the Pixel 7 Pro will be better than the Pixel 6 Pro when playing graphics-intensive games and rendering graphics.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro has 12GB of RAM and the internal storage options available on both smartphones start from 128GB and go up to 512GB. There is no space for storage expansion via a microSD card slot available on both phones.

Google Pixel 7 Pro boots Android 13 out of the box while the Google Pixel 6 Pro boots Android 12 out of the box. Both smartphones will get up to five years of major software updates. Users can download apps and games from the Google Play store.
The software and user experience on both smartphones are very smooth. Animation is fast, apps open very quickly, switching between apps is smooth, and the user interface on both phones looks neat. However, the Pixel 7 Pro will get upgraded to Android 18 while the Pixel 6 Pro will be upgraded to Android 17.

A 5,000mAh battery powers the Google Pixel 7 Pro and the Pixel 6 Pro. The charging features available on both phones include 23W fast wireless charging, 30W wired fast charging, USB Power Delivery 3.0, and Reverse wireless charging. The Pixel 7 Pro has longer battery life because it has a more efficient chipset.
