To celebrate the World Cup Qatar 2022, a new Minecraft map has been released which essentially turns the title into a blocky soccer match. With the game being ported to a number of platforms, more so even than The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, there are plenty of opportunities for newcomers to see what all the fuss is about when it comes to Mojang’s s&box IP. After more than a decade, many would be forgiven for thinking there’d be nothing left to discover in Minecraft, but there are always new ways of playing the game, some of which can be quite sporty.
Of course, soccer is usually associated with FIFA, but that doesn’t mean other releases can’t get into the sport. The World Cup is one of the biggest events in the world, with 32 teams from all over the globe participating in the competition this year, including the USA, Denmark, Argentina, Iran, the Netherl&s, & Qatar itself. While millions will be tuning in to watch each match, there will be others who may want to mix their love of soccer with their passion for gaming.
That’s where Minecraft comes into play. As spotted by PCGamesN, a new map has just been launched called “Soccer Celebration.” As the name suggests, it allows players to take on the role of a well-trained athlete, taking part in what the UK often refers to as the “Gorgeous game.” The map is available to download now from the official Minecraft site, with the description saying that fans will have the opportunity to pick their favorite “mob-themed team,” & train themselves up over the course of three stages. All of this will culminate in a final match.
It sounds like a pretty interesting map for those who are really into soccer. Over the years, there have been plenty of fascinating maps for Minecraft, some of which have been used to raise money for worthy causes or tried to preserve a piece of history. With so many different ways to play, not to mention the wealth of projects that fans can become engaged with, it’s not surprising the game is still going strong after all this time.
Minecraft is known for its longevity, as well as its now iconic visual style. While there are some games like the aforementioned Skyrim or Gr& Theft Auto 5 that are huge successes in the industry, the majority of releases can only dream of reaching the lofty achievements of the once indie title that took the world by storm.
Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, & Xbox One.
