ORPHANED CALF, RAISED BY GERMAN SHEPHERDS, BELIEVES HE’S A DOG.
Buddy, the young bull calf, was taken in by a family of German Shepherd breeders at the tender age of one day, following the tragic loss of his mother. As a result, he now believes he is part of the family’s litter of puppies.
He relishes his nap time alongside the rest of the puppies.
Moreover, he actively engages in outdoor games with the children, Bella and Lawson. “He doesn’t perceive himself as a calf; I believe he considers himself more sophisticated than them,” the family shared. While he occasionally gazes at the other calves in the paddock, Buddy prefers the comforts of the back veranda.
He’s completely at ease spending time with humans and dogs.
Buddy greatly appreciates the grooming care provided by Bada, and he responds with deep affection for her. Bada consistently tends to Buddy, grooming him, licking him, and even delicately washing his eyes; her presence is a constant comfort to him.
Whenever Buddy ventures outdoors, Bada takes on the role of a vigilant guardian. She closely watches over him, staying by his side and actively following his movements. Her dedication and generosity with her time have been nothing short of extraordinary, making her a truly fantastic companion to Buddy.
Coral has expressed her commitment to providing Buddy with a permanent and loving home.
Coral recounted that, unfortunately, when they were able to rescue Buddy’s mother, she was already in a state of complete exhaustion and, tragically, she didn’t survive.
Despite the heart-wrenching loss of Buddy’s mother, the young calf quickly endeared himself to the couple’s two children, Bella, aged 12, and Lawson, aged 10. This was due to his eager and enthusiastic participation in their games and activities.
Coral shared that Buddy actively runs alongside the children when they’re riding their bikes outdoors, and he particularly enjoys playing chase with Bella. His affectionate nature has allowed him to integrate seamlessly into the family.
Even though Buddy has become an integral part of their lives, the family keeps the house off-limits to him. Instead, he sleeps on the veranda of their farmhouse, where he feels comfortable and at home.
Buddy’s voracious appetite is evident as he currently consumes 10 and a half pints of milk every day. With a projected full-grown weight of 95 stone, he might soon outgrow his current bed.
Nevertheless, Buddy has secured a permanent place in their hearts as Coral expressed, “But he will always be our pet bull, that’s for sure – no matter how big he gets.” Their commitment to providing him a forever home remains unwavering.
