When Tania Mackee’s mare Destiny gave birth to her second pair of twins foals, she was taken completely by surprise.
Destiny startled the world by giving birth to her second pair of twins, Pesky and Peakaboo, in February after giving birth to her first set of twins, GFS Shockwave and GFS Aftershock, in 2018.
There is a 10,000 to 1 probability that Irish Sport Horse Destiny will give birth to twins. The mare continued to defy the odds by giving birth to a second batch of twins, so her perseverance wasn’t nearly over.
The likelihood of a horse having twins twice is about one million to one.
Horse twin survival rates are often not very high. Since there is a considerable chance that the mother and foals may pass away at birth or soon after, twin pregnancies frequently result in the abortion of an embryo. Given that she gave birth to healthy twins not once, but twice, Destiny is truly remarkable.
Destiny had two sets of twins: her first was a pair of identical colts, and her second was a colt and a filly. The scans from the second set were a complete shock because they only revealed one ovulating follicle and one fetus after conception.
Tania would have taken the extra precautions required to manage a pregnant horse with twins if she had known the mare was carrying two foals.
Destiny gave her owners quite a shock when they arrived because she had shown no indications throughout her pregnancy that she was carrying twins once more.
Tania is happy that the two children and their mother are well, even if it is unclear how the second foal escaped detection during pregnancy.
Tania stated on Facebook:
“I am fully aware that despite the miraculous nature of this extraordinary event and the possibility of two sets of healthy twins being born to the same mare being comparable to being struck by lightning twice, many people would choose to see this in a disapproving and judgmental perspective. That is wonderful; we are happy that both twins are alive and believe that their arrival, survival, and adoption into our hearts were the result of a combination of good fortune, superb treatment, and perhaps a little fairy dust.
Peekaboo and Whoopsie have demonstrated a strong affinity since birth. The two, according to GFS Sporthorses, are quick, athletic, and nimble and eager to impress anybody watching.
The fact that Destiny gave birth to two sets of healthy, flourishing twins is definitely an amazing accomplishment. Tania does not want to breed Destiny again, despite the fact that she has shown to be an excellent mother.
She obviously deserves high recognition for parenting two sets of twins.
